South Beach
South Beach
South beach is a popular choice for the young’uns and families alike, set along the Fremantle’s bike trail and conveniently a stone’s throw away from the buzzing South Terrace strip of modern eateries. In its previous reincarnations, South Beach was once used as a training ground for racing horses, and a holiday destination in its own right with a fairground and concert hall – the “Hydrodome” – located on the foreshore.
Nowadays, its the buoyant atmosphere, warm pristine waters of the vast Indian Ocean and unbeatable views of Rottnest, Carnac and Garden islands that attract multitudes of colourful beach umbrella – toting beachgoers and keen SUP riders to its shores.
Shady Norfolk island pines provide relief during scorching hot summer days, and grassy lawns and BBQ facilities invite beach dwellers to bring along packed picnics or the ingredients of a traditional Aussie BBQ affair. Alternatively, simply head down on one of the nights when the food trucks are out in full throttle. As in the past, South Beach is still all about the good times – come one, come all.
