A beautiful beach walk from Maraetai Beach to the wharf at Magazine Bay, on Auckland’s pōhutukawa coast.

You’ll be mainly walking on white shell beaches, with some areas of boardwalk and paved path. There’s a short section of rocks to walk over between Maraetai Beach and Waiomanu Beach.

Start your stroll at the western end of Maraetai Beach, at Maraetai Park. Here you’ll find a small viewing deck which is a great photo spot. There’s a fun beachfront playground here for toddlers and children to start their adventure and options for an ice-cream or coffee stop across the road.

Walk east along the beach and enjoy the spectacular coastal views out to Waiheke Island and Ponui (Chamberlins) Island. You can even see out to the Coromandel Peninsula on a clear day.

Maraetai Beach is a popular summer destination – you’re spoiled for choice with picnic and swimming spots. There is shade along the way from the grand pōhutukawa trees.

Continue to the end of Maraetai Beach, and then climb over a short section of rocks to reach Waiomanu Beach. Continue along the coast until you reach picturesque Magazine Bay.
